Overview
You may be referred to a rheumatologist because you are suffering from muscle and joint pain that is not going away. The rheumatologist in this office is trained to look for the underlying conditions that cause the pain you are experiencing. That may involve a complete medical history, including a review of lab tests, and an examination of your musculoskeletal system to look for areas of inflammation.
Common diseases treated by a rheumatologist include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic back pain, gout, lupus and tendinitis.
The rheumatologist develops a personalized treatment plan that may include physical therapy, medication and/or joint and tendon injections.
