About
Erik Dean, DO, is a board-certified sports medicine physician with comprehensive expertise in caring for athletes across all competitive levels. He brings extensive experience as team physician for the Colorado Rockies, San Francisco Giants and multiple high schools, and has served elite athletes training at EXOS ranging from NFL Combine participants to MLB off-season programs. Dr. Dean earned his degree in exercise physiology from the University of Arizona, where he played football as a wide receiver and defensive back from 1991 to 1995. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences and completed his family medicine residency at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale, where he served as chief resident.
Dr. Dean provides comprehensive sports medicine care with clinical interests in athletic injuries, endurance athlete care, arthritis management, and preventative medicine. He offers specialized services including musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnostics and ultrasound-guided injections, sports team and event coverage and non-operative orthopedic treatment. His practice encompasses care for athletes at every level, from high school competitors to professional MLB and NFL players.
Dr. Dean's approach to sports medicine centers on getting patients back to their activity as quickly and safely as possible. As a former collegiate athlete and current avid runner and triathlete, he relates to his patients on a personal level and understands firsthand that no one likes to be sidelined. He delivers personalized, evidence-based care grounded in the principle of treating patients exactly how he would want to be treated, combining his athletic background with his clinical expertise to optimize recovery and performance.
A graduate of the University of Arizona, Dr. Dean's athletic career highlights include a Fiesta Bowl victory over Miami and a seventh-place national ranking. He remains on staff at the University of Arizona Medical School Phoenix supporting their sports medicine teaching program. Outside of his practice, Dr. Dean enjoys running and triathlon training. He also enjoys coaching his daughter's club softball team, bringing the same dedication to mentorship and athletic development that defines his medical practice.
