Interventional endoscopy treatments and procedures

Our physicians specialize in complex endoscopic procedures. They use leading-edge technology and techniques to diagnose and treat all types of gastrointestinal disorders.

Cryoablation

Cryoablation is a procedure used to manage Barrett's esophagus or early esophageal cancer. It utilizes liquid nitrogen to generate extremely cold temperatures to destroy tissue in the targeted area while protecting the deep layer of your esophagus. Cryoablation can used in combination with other endoscopic procedures.

Double-balloon enteroscopy

A double-balloon enteroscopy is a diagnostic test used to evaluate your gastrointestinal tract if testing has revealed lesions or bleeding in your small intestines. A long, flexible tube with a camera and small balloon at the tip is inserted in through your mouth to look for abnormalities in your gastrointestinal tract.

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy

An esophagogastroduodenoscopy is a test used examine your upper gastrointestinal tract. It is frequently performed on patients with symptoms of abdominal pain, reflux, nausea or difficulty swallowing. It is one of the most common procedures that a gastroenterologist performs.

This procedure is primarily diagnostic, but it can also be used therapeutically to treat problems that are found during your exam. These procedures are routinely performed at one of our outpatient endoscopy locations.

Endoscopic mucosal resection

Endoscopic mucosal resection is a delicate technique that allows for the removal of lesions involving the mucosa or lining of your gastrointestinal tract. This technique is frequently used to remove large polyps in your colon but can also be used in your esophagus or stomach.

In the hands of an interventional endoscopist, most patients with large colon polyps can be treated adequately with endoscopic mucosal resection, avoiding the need for surgery.

Endoscopic cricopharyngeal myotomy

Endoscopic cricopharyngeal myotomy is a minimally invasive procedure performed if you have trouble swallowing, feel the sensation of a lump in your throat or have been diagnosed with Zenker’s diverticulum. It is done through your mouth using an endoscope (a long, flexible tube with a camera and light source at one end). Your provider remodels your esophageal structure to ensure you can easily swallow fluids and food.

Minimally invasive endoscopic weight loss procedures

At HonorHealth, we offer a variety of minimally invasive endobariatric procedures to help you lose weight, including endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, transoral outlet reduction and sleeve-in-sleeve revision.

Peroral endoscopic myotomy

Peroral endoscopic myotomy is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat muscle disorders in the esophagus, such as achalasia, and relieve symptoms of gastroparesis. Your physician will insert an endoscope (a narrow flexible tube with a camera) through your mouth to cut muscles in the esophagus. Cutting the muscles loosens and prevents them from tightening and interfering with swallowing.

Transoral incisionless fundoplication

Transoral incisionless fundoplication is a minimally invasive procedure performed to treat symptoms of acid reflux and other conditions associated with GERD. Your physician will insert an endoscope (a narrow flexible tube with a camera) through your mouth to tighten your lower esophageal sphincter, the muscle that keeps acid and undigested food inside your stomach. When it’s tightened, your symptoms will improve.
